Friends: A Role Model

(This is the first of a series of posts on some of my friends for their achievements in life. I am starting with a friend who most bloggers know.)

Let me start with a question. Tell me an Indian woman who I can call a role model for others. Is it Sonia Gandhi for controlling the government of the largest democracy or is it Pratibha Patil for being the first women President of India? Could it be Kiran Bedi for her initiative in fight against corruption? May be it is Mayawati for some people. A Bollywood fan may say Katrina Kaif or Aishwarya Rai.

Can a normal person follow the footsteps of any of these famous (or infamous) women? My guess is not and my choice is:

  • A girl who starts from scratch.
  • She studies on scholarship and gets excellent grades.
  • She secures admission in an Engineering college on merit.
  • While studying, she works part time to meet her ends.
  • She takes up a job in Information Technology in a multinational company.
  • She earns enough to buy an apartment in one of the most expensive cities of India.
  • No silver spoon to start with, no magic wand, no lottery, and no unfair means. Simple hard work and dedication.
  • Younger generation can follow her footsteps to achieve tangible goals.

This self made friend is Bindu and most bloggers know her as Insignia in blogosphere. I think she did an awesome job. Though we may all say intellect and character development reflects the success of a person, financial accomplishment is extremely important. I decided a post on her as she recently purchased her own house and made it home.

Congratulations Bindu and continue to be a role model for all of us.

Bindu is a close friend of mine for many years. We have been friends long before she created her own blog. I personally know she has made it against all odds. What you have written about her is absolutely true. She is a role model for many.

I really appreciate it, when she says she was glad that the house was not inherited. How many people in India could say that proudly? I know many families who live out of inherited wealth (Doing nothing else).

Inheritance is our bane. Its time we accepted that simple fact in life! Fortunately, today's society gives multiple avenues for people to work on their own and succeed.

Congratulations to Bindu on her success.
I have not visited her blogspace but will do so now.It is not an easy task to achieve all this at such an early age without any aid or inheritance all by yourself.

Good one @A! Just returned from visiting her. Thank you for introducing Bindhu to the rest of us who don't know her much.

By the way, consider making the link with ' target="_blank" ' attribute so that the link opens in a new window and your page still stays active... This way it will be convenient for the reader to get back to your post to comment.

A,

First and foremost, thank you so much for this wonderful gesture.
Its overwhelming and I am honored. I dont think this is any great achievement.

My humble beginning with its own set of problems and struggle taught me to a lot, to grow bolder and stronger and remain humble throughout. It taught me discipline, respect and independence.

Thanks again for this post. I really appreciate you for this series. It requires magnanimous generosity to write about others in your own space. Kudos to you.

Harman,

Thanks so much for your wishes and blessings. It was sweet of you to visit my blog.
