This giant gate is a popular attraction in the center of a big city. The knobs or nails on the door are presumably gold. Similar to golden plate on lower end, the door has golden plate on the top end but not visible in the picture. This gate (along with other buildings of this tourist spot) was constructed more than 500 years ago. To give you an idea of the height of the gate, the person in this picture is around 6 feet tall.
Can you guess the city and/or this Heritage site?
(Answer:- Most of you are right. It is indeed Forbidden City, Beijing, China. I guess I am dealing with a set of well traveled, well read and intelligent people. Added a posted on the Forbidden City - here)

Señorita,
Welcome!
Is it possible for you to be more specific? May be it is in China.
@A! I am sure it is in China - I have seen it in Karate Kid movie :)
Now, if we are allowed to cheat, I can look it up! Since we are NOT, I will wait for your answer...
I also think it is in China
The kind of work on the golden frame appears as if it is China or Japan. May be it is some Buddhist temple.
No guess..... waiting for the answer to come.... but again looking at the art work it can be in china.
i can only imagine one place in china with this kind of art.....i guess its in the forbidden city!!
Is it Ladakh?
To be specific a Buddhist Monastery in Ladakh!
Is it the Donghuamen gate of the Forbidden City which has 71 studs in brass plated with gold?
I m clueless.
See how neatly a 500 year old door has been maintained? Our tourist spots must learn from them, where ever it is.
Destination Infinity
No idea .. i can guess China or Tibet a door to a monastry ..
and I like destination infinity's commend look at our Tourists spots ..
Bikram's
China? Peking? The Forbidden City? I didn't look at the other comments so someone has probably already guessed the correct answer- I'll look back to see what it is.
That is easy- meridian Gate, Forbidden city, Beijing, China.
Sorry, now all your readers would know the answer.
should be china ..guessed owing to your china trip..:))
I have no idea where it is, all I can say is I think it very impressive. That said, as it's red and this a colour I associate with China (its considered a lucky colour there, isn't it?)I think I'm also going to take a guess at China. Then again there is something about it, the golden studs I think, which puts me in mind of India.
Honestly..no idea.
Will read your short stories now...
no clue!honestly!
But I will browse!
Forbidden city, Meridian Gate, China... but the snaps I have are not this pretty. This snap looks too good to be real...
I cant think of a place other than China. Me too, remember having seen it in some movies.
Nice sharing Dear.. :)
tibet, or nepal
Dear All,
Post has been updated with the answer.
Destination Infinity and Bikram,
I have recently traveled to Mumbai, Goa and Delhi and visited tourist spots. May be I was lucky but I found ALL OF THEM clean, maintained and very well presented.
You posted even before I answered. The only reason I recognized this was because I watched Karate kid this weekend.
And yes, I will let you know when I plan a trip to Raleigh. It will be fun to meet you in person and my husband's name is Mahesh.
Karate kid, last week! :) But I guess I am late too! Nice detailed explanation though! I love such photos with description. It leaves you that bit more "educated" . :)
This is one black sheep in your well traveled readers... I would rather keep myself out of the guessing business....
always enjoy your questions
wow...and also dealing with a set of not so well informed people who are glad at being informed here:-)
Dear All,
Thanks for participation. I enjoyed it. Tanishka raised a specific point so a special reply to her.
@Tanishka,
Well I said 'intelligent' too. You are an INTELLIGENT reader. I feel you are intelligent because you know what you don't know. People who know themselves are the most intelligent people in my opinion. They know their strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. You are one of them.
Well I am so late and of course you have posted it now....
you came to mumbai when???
why didn't you tell me
Wow A.... Thanks a lot for all the good words and a special mention :)
