Irene hit hard on North Carolina. Fortunately Raleigh/ Cary area, being around 200 miles west of ocean, was spared by wrath of nature. However Outer Banks, my favorite vacation spot, is impacted by the anger of nature. Hurricanes are not uncommon in Outer Banks area but nevertheless they incur financial loss, disrupt life and leave a lot of work to clean up the aftermath. My heart goes out for affected residents and their families. Locals are resilient, prepare well in advance and work hard to quickly clean up.
Like every year, in May 2011, we enjoyed a trip to Manteo and Kill Devil Hills, part of the Outer Banks, impacted by Irene. Manteo is a charming small town while Kill Devil Hills has magnificent beaches. I wish and hope for normalcy so that we continue to enjoy the sheer beauty of these towns. The pictures show the splendor of the area.

Glad to know you are okay @A! We were concerned. Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures. Stay safe...
Good to know that the hurricane has crossed the area and you are safe. A blogger friend who lives at NC said that they didn't have power the whole day until 8 pm. Now, they are OK.
All the pictures are beautiful. The blue colour of the sea looks nice.

Very beautiful place. Wonderful pictures of the clear blue sky and the sea. I am praying to God for everybody's safety.
glad to know that you are safe..I always wonder that even in developed countries natural calamities make people helpless in the same way as in ours, why?

I wonder why tsunamis are given such catching names like, Irene & Katrina etc. Reminds me of Keats's famous poem " La belle dame sans merci !" as these tsunamis are as unsparing as the lady in the poem .
Sorry for those who have to bear the brunt of such calamities !
I pray for their safety and succor !
So, hurricanes include tornadoes or they are just storms?

Pics are serene and calming but TV is showing how a calm sea can become furious and cause devastation.

Beautiful photography, A. I've never been to the Outer Banks. My book publisher's offices are in Vermont, also terribly affected by Irene, and they are thankful the offices were spared and no one hurt.
