Rio is a city of beautiful beaches and Carnival. With a population over 6 million people, it is one of the most popular tourist destination.
Navigating through the busy streets of Rio, I found statue of Mahatma Gandhi very fascinating. With a negligible Indian population in Brazil, it is hard to conceive the idea of witnessing Gandhi’s statue at a very busy intersection. As I learned more, it turns out Brazilians have great respect for Mahatma Gandhi and have very keen interest in India’s culture and history. Last year one of the most popular Brazilian TV Soap was set in India. See link here.
One of my reader 'Logu' could easily identify the location of statue. Thanks Logu.

Hi! Freind,
thanks for these surprises, its fun & info :)
Interestingly, recently I have encountered some Portugese in the USA; One of them who is a Pastor has invited me to come and share my testimony of faith with his Church congregation. Plan to write a blog post after the event.
It is TRUE they are so facinated by us Indians!

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. I am trying to make it interesting.
NRIGirl,
I took one of my Brazlian collegue to the movie 'The Namesake'. He really enjoyed. I have to been to Brazil few times and I found that Brazilians have very deep knowledge of diffrent culture and coutries - not just India. I have some close friends there now and I have an open invitation to go and stay in their house for vacation.
Thank you.I would not have been able to guess.

BK, Ramesh,
Thanks. I took this picture around 4 years back but I did not blog at that time. Brazil has been in news in India last year because of Brazil's famous TV Serial set in India.
Brazil has very talented people. Very educated and informed about other part of world.
And above all being Indian is an honour in Brazil. I hope we maintain that honor.
It is a pleasant surprise.
Seeing this post brought back memories of Brazil...I have lived there for 10 years.
Shobha,
That must be awesome. Did you learn local language?
