Giant Gate..Can you guess the place (Updated)

This giant gate is a popular attraction in the center of a big city. The knobs or nails on the door are presumably gold. Similar to golden plate on lower end, the door has golden plate on the top end but not visible in the picture. This gate (along with other buildings of this tourist spot) was constructed more than 500 years ago. To give you an idea of the height of the gate, the person in this picture is around 6 feet tall.

Can you guess the city and/or this Heritage site?

(Answer:- Most of you are right. It is indeed Forbidden City, Beijing, China. I guess I am dealing with a set of well traveled, well read and intelligent people. Added a posted on the Forbidden City - here)

Señorita,

Welcome!

Is it possible for you to be more specific? May be it is in China.

@A! I am sure it is in China - I have seen it in Karate Kid movie :)

Now, if we are allowed to cheat, I can look it up! Since we are NOT, I will wait for your answer...

The kind of work on the golden frame appears as if it is China or Japan. May be it is some Buddhist temple.

See how neatly a 500 year old door has been maintained? Our tourist spots must learn from them, where ever it is.

China? Peking? The Forbidden City? I didn't look at the other comments so someone has probably already guessed the correct answer- I'll look back to see what it is.

I have no idea where it is, all I can say is I think it very impressive. That said, as it's red and this a colour I associate with China (its considered a lucky colour there, isn't it?)I think I'm also going to take a guess at China. Then again there is something about it, the golden studs I think, which puts me in mind of India.

Destination Infinity and Bikram,

I have recently traveled to Mumbai, Goa and Delhi and visited tourist spots. May be I was lucky but I found ALL OF THEM clean, maintained and very well presented.

You posted even before I answered. The only reason I recognized this was because I watched Karate kid this weekend.

And yes, I will let you know when I plan a trip to Raleigh. It will be fun to meet you in person and my husband's name is Mahesh.

Karate kid, last week! :) But I guess I am late too! Nice detailed explanation though! I love such photos with description. It leaves you that bit more "educated" . :)

Dear All,

Thanks for participation. I enjoyed it. Tanishka raised a specific point so a special reply to her.

@Tanishka,

Well I said 'intelligent' too. You are an INTELLIGENT reader. I feel you are intelligent because you know what you don't know. People who know themselves are the most intelligent people in my opinion. They know their strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. You are one of them.
